In Venice, the city built on water, the land is very precious. Having a garden is hard to justify, if not impossible. Venezia è una città verde investigates how local people deal with living in tight urban spaces with not much room for parks or other green areas. As you make your way through the labyrinth of narrow streets, you nd windowsills, roofs and courtyards lled with plant pots; leaves and owers spilling out of them. It is fascinating how real the urge of being close to nature is, and how it manifests itself in this oating city.
The book is constructed around the routes of seven walks. The chapters of the book cover most of the main Venetian islands including Giudecca and Burano, taking you on a journey around the city.
The project was realised during a British Council-funded residency at the Venice Art Biennale 2017.
